The income tax department has recently went under launch of an e-facility to correct the errors in the database of PAN and Adhaar.
Further the department has launched the facility to link the biometric identifier Aadhaar with PAN. The department has also launched to new links on its website, one for the updation of existing PAN data and new PAN application by an Indian or a foreign citizen the another one is for updation of Aadhaar data. The individuals who wants to update their Aadhaar data need to login into “Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal” by using their unique identification number. After logging in the individuals will require to upload their scanned documents with reference to their Aadhaar updation.

As per the recent data analysis their are around 25 crore PAN holder in the country as complared to 111 crore Aadhaar holders. But the number of Aadhaar linked PAN holders are as low as 1.22 crore only.

And out of 25 Crore PAN holder in the country only 6 crore file the return of income as the Income Tax Department statistics.

The Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley has made Aadhaar mandatory for filing the income tax return through an amendment made to the Finance Bill 2017-18 in order to curb the evasion of tax through multiple PAN use.

In order to facilitate and implement the above mentioned change, the income tax department recently launched the facility of linking Aadhaar with PAN.

In order to link the Aadhaar with PAN the person need to enter his name, PAN and Aadhaar number.

The linking of Aadhaar with PAN will be confirmed only when the UIDAI confirms the same. In case any mismatch is found in both the datas the UIDAI will sent an OTP to the mobile number registered in its database.
